D4S are excited to be collaborating with The William Hare Group, to assist in the delivering of Manchester Airports new ‘super terminal’.
Early in 2017, our team of structural engineers took on the challenging experience of the connection design for the first 2 phases of the Hong Kong International Airport expansion masterplan. Ready for our next super scale project, in true D4S style, we’re once again starting the year with another airport challenge.
As part of its vision to become one of the top 10 European Airports, the 1bn invested programme will see the transformation and expansion of Terminal 2, and this is where we are very proud to play our part.
The specialist Connection Design Team at Design4Structures have been commissioned by William Hare to work alongside their structural engineers in designing and detailing the non-standard and complex steelwork connections for the terminal, fulfilling Hare’s specs and requirements for optimizing the Fabrication Procedure.
D4S are also responsible for designing all the secondary steelwork elements associated to this phase of works.
Working closely with Hare’s and our sister company, TDS, who are responsible for the fabrication modelling and detailing, we will develop BuroHappold’s structural design to a fabrication level detail.
These first 3 phases of work will incorporate almost 200 different connections types, including CIDECT connection and complex torsion and moment connections, designed to undertake numerous load scenarios.
We hope to continue our relationship with Hare’s and Manchester Airport, and from then on the sky’s the limit.
