Working closely with Kingspan SBS, our LGSF engineering team delivered RIBA Stage 4 and 5 design for this 180-bedroom Hub by Premier Inn hotel. The scheme comprised a 4-storey light gauge steel frame, including hot-rolled elements and a rooftop plant screen.
Our role was to provide a complete engineering solution for the technical design, ensuring full compliance with client requirements while developing bespoke connection designs for both hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel.
A key challenge on this project was the need to integrate unique structural requirements, such as bolt-on horizontal banding, cantilevered supports, and acoustic performance considerations in communal areas.
Close collaboration between the Design4Structures team and Kingspan SBS was central to the project’s success. This included an in-depth kick-off workshop, regular weekly meetings, and daily interaction throughout delivery.
Light gauge steel was selected as the primary solution, offering flexibility to overcome the project’s challenges. For the bolt-on banding, we designed a cantilevered support and produced a test panel to validate buildability on site. Acoustic performance was addressed by incorporating concrete into the design of communal areas, ensuring robust outcomes.
